How to Write an SEO Optimized Blog Post
Start With Intent, Not Keywords
The most common reason a well written article fails to rank is that it answers a different question than the one people are asking. Before writing a single sentence, search your target query and study what already ranks. Are the results how-to guides, comparison pages, product listings, or tools? That format is a strong signal of what searchers expect. If the top ten results are all step-by-step tutorials and you write an opinion essay, you are competing in the wrong category regardless of quality.
Look past the format to the substance. Note which subtopics every top result covers, because those represent the baseline expectation. Then identify what none of them handle well: an unanswered follow-up question, a missing example, outdated information, or a step that is glossed over. That gap is your reason to exist on the results page. Without it, you are publishing a slightly different version of something that already ranks.
Hire AAMAX.CO for SEO Services
Consistently producing content that ranks requires research, structure, technical execution, and promotion working together. At AAMAX.CO we handle all four, building content programmes around real search demand rather than guesswork. Our search engine optimization team maps keyword clusters, briefs and writes articles, optimises on-page elements, implements internal linking, and reports on performance so you can see which posts drive revenue. We serve clients worldwide as a full service digital marketing company, which means the same team can also build the pages, fix the technical issues, and run the campaigns that amplify your content.
Plan the Structure Before You Write
Outline the article as a series of questions a reader would ask in the order they would ask them. Each question becomes a subheading, and each subheading gets enough substance to stand alone. This approach produces two benefits: readers can scan to the section they need, and search engines can extract clear passages for featured snippets and AI-generated answers.
Aim for a logical progression rather than a word count. Most competitive informational topics need somewhere between eight hundred and fifteen hundred words to cover properly, but length should follow completeness. A page that answers the question thoroughly in nine hundred words will outperform a padded two thousand word version. Include a short introduction that confirms the reader is in the right place, then get to the substance quickly.
Write the On-Page Elements Deliberately
The title tag is your advertisement in the search results. Lead with the primary phrase, keep it under roughly sixty characters so it does not truncate, and give a reason to click without resorting to exaggeration. The on-page headline can be slightly longer and more human. The URL slug should be short, lowercase, and hyphenated, containing the core phrase and nothing else.
Write the meta description by hand. It does not influence rankings directly, but it heavily influences click-through rate, which determines how much traffic a given position actually delivers. Around one hundred and fifty characters, written as a promise to solve the reader's problem, works reliably.
Use your primary phrase naturally in the first paragraph, in at least one subheading, and a handful of times across the body where it genuinely fits. Beyond that, focus on covering the topic with the vocabulary an expert would use. Modern search engines understand synonyms and related entities, so repetition adds nothing while damaging readability.
Make It Readable and Scannable
Short paragraphs of two to four sentences, descriptive subheadings every few hundred words, occasional bold text for genuinely important points, and lists where a list is the clearest format all improve time on page. Write in active voice, keep sentences to a manageable length, and cut hedging phrases that add words without meaning.
Add at least one meaningful image, chart, or diagram with descriptive alt text. Visuals break up long stretches of text, earn image search traffic, and help explain concepts that are awkward in prose. Compress every asset and specify dimensions so the page does not shift as it loads.
Link With Purpose
Include three to five internal links to related pages on your own site, using descriptive anchor text that tells the reader what they will find. Internal links distribute authority, reduce bounce, and help search engines map your topical coverage. Always link from a new post to your most relevant commercial page, and from at least two established pages back to the new post so it is discovered quickly.
Add outbound links to authoritative sources when you cite data or reference a specification. Linking out does not harm your rankings and it demonstrates that your claims are grounded. Never link to the same URL twice within one article; one well-placed link is stronger than three repeated ones.
Edit Ruthlessly, Then Optimise for Extraction
Leave the draft alone for a few hours, then read it as a sceptical reader. Delete anything that does not help someone accomplish the task. Verify every factual claim and date. Check that each subheading accurately describes the content beneath it, because mismatched headings are one of the most common reasons a page fails to earn a snippet.
Then review it as a machine would. Does each section answer its implied question within the first two sentences? Are entities named explicitly rather than referred to as "it" or "this"? Is there a clear summary near the top? These habits make your content easier to cite in AI-generated answers, which is increasingly where discovery happens. Our GEO services exist specifically to optimise for that surface.
Publish, Promote, and Maintain
Publishing is the midpoint, not the finish. Share the post through the channels where your audience already gathers, include it in your newsletter, and reference it when answering related questions in communities and on social platforms. Early engagement accelerates discovery.
Then set a reminder to revisit the article in six months. Update statistics, refresh examples, add sections covering questions that emerged in the search console query report, and improve the title if the click-through rate is below what the position should deliver. Maintained content compounds; abandoned content decays. Businesses that treat every post as a living asset build organic traffic that keeps growing long after the writing is done.
