Start With Crawlability
Crawl your own site with a dedicated tool and compare the result against your expectations. Every page that should rank must be reachable through internal links within a few clicks of the homepage, return a 200 status and load without requiring interaction. Look for orphan pages that no link points to, redirect chains where one hop becomes three, broken internal links and pages buried too deep in the architecture to receive meaningful authority.

Every duplicate variation should resolve to the preferred form in a single 301 hop. Internal links, sitemaps, canonical tags and hreflang annotations must all reference that final form directly rather than relying on redirects to clean up.
During migrations, build a complete one-to-one map from old URLs to their closest new equivalents. Blanket redirects to the homepage waste the accumulated value of every page they cover, and they signal to search engines that the old content is gone rather than moved.

Site structure communicates importance. Group related content into clusters, give each cluster a hub page, and link between the hub and its supporting pages in both directions. Keep the click depth of commercially important pages shallow. Use breadcrumbs so both users and crawlers understand hierarchy, and support them with breadcrumb structured data.

Audit it periodically: which pages receive the most internal links, and are they the pages you actually want to rank? Realigning internal links with commercial priorities is one of the cheapest and most reliable technical improvements available.

If your site depends on client-side rendering, confirm that primary content, headings, links and metadata are present in the initial HTML or reliably rendered by crawlers. Use server-side rendering or static generation for content that must rank. Avoid injecting canonical tags, meta robots directives or hreflang annotations through JavaScript, since those instructions are far safer in the initial response. Test with a rendering tool rather than trusting the browser view, because your browser is more patient and capable than a crawler.
Improve Core Web Vitals and Stability
Page experience metrics measure loading, responsiveness and visual stability. Improve them with concrete engineering rather than plugins alone. Optimize the largest element above the fold, usually a hero image or headline, by serving a correctly sized modern format with high priority. Defer or remove non-critical JavaScript so the main thread is free to respond to input. Reserve dimensions for images, embeds and dynamic banners so nothing shifts as the page settles.
