How to Disable Qode SEO
If you run a WordPress site built on a Qode theme such as Bridge, Qi or one of the many Qode Interactive premium templates, you may have noticed something strange in your search results: titles that do not match what you set, meta descriptions that appear twice in the page source, or Open Graph tags that stubbornly refuse to update. The usual cause is a collision. Qode themes and their bundled framework include their own SEO fields, and when a dedicated plugin like Yoast SEO, Rank Math or SEOPress is also active, both try to write the same tags into the document head. Search engines then pick whichever they prefer, which is rarely the one you intended.
Disabling the theme's SEO layer is usually the correct fix, because a specialist plugin will always offer better schema, sitemap and control features than a theme add-on. The important thing is to do it deliberately, verify the result in the rendered HTML, and clean up the leftover data so nothing reappears after an update.
Let AAMAX.CO Handle the Technical Cleanup for You
Theme conflicts like this are exactly the kind of quiet technical problem we resolve every week at AAMAX.CO, and because we build WordPress sites as well as optimise them, we know where Qode stores its settings and how its updates behave. Our team disables the conflicting layer, migrates any meta data you want to keep, and reconfigures your chosen plugin so titles, descriptions and structured data are output cleanly once. To get this handled without risking your live site, hire AAMAX.CO for expert SEO services. We are a full-service digital marketing company offering web development, digital marketing and search optimisation worldwide, so both the code and the strategy stay in one pair of hands.
Step 1: Confirm You Actually Have a Conflict
Before changing anything, open a page on your site, view the page source, and search for the title tag and for meta name description. If either appears more than once, you have duplication. Also look for repeated og:title, og:description and twitter:card tags. Note which values belong to which system, since Qode output often sits near theme-generated comments while plugin output usually sits inside a clearly labelled block. Take a screenshot or save the HTML, because this is your before state.
Step 2: Back Up First
Take a full backup of files and database, or at minimum a database snapshot. If you have a staging environment, make the change there first. Theme SEO settings are stored in options and post meta, and while disabling them is low risk, a backup turns any surprise into a five-minute rollback instead of an emergency.
Step 3: Turn Off the Qode SEO Option in the Theme Panel
Log into WordPress and open the theme options panel, which appears in the admin sidebar under the theme name, for example Qode Options, Bridge Options or Qi Options. Look inside the General or Advanced section for an entry labelled SEO, Meta Tags, or Enable SEO Fields. Set it to disabled or off, then save. On some Qode releases this single toggle removes all theme-generated head tags immediately. On others, the toggle only hides the editor fields while still printing the tags, so continue to the next steps and verify.
Step 4: Disable the Bundled Plugin If One Exists
Many Qode themes install companion plugins through a bundled installer. Go to Plugins and review the list for anything with Qode or the theme name in the title that mentions SEO or meta functionality. If one exists and you are using a dedicated plugin instead, deactivate it. Do not deactivate the theme's core framework plugin, as that powers layout shortcodes and page builder elements and removing it will break your design.
Step 5: Suppress Remaining Output With a Child Theme
If duplicate tags persist, the theme is hooking its meta output into wp_head. The clean solution is a child theme, never a direct edit of the parent, because parent files are overwritten on update. In your child theme functions file, remove the theme's meta action from wp_head using remove_action with the same hook and callback name that the parent registered. Find the exact callback by searching the parent theme's includes directory for wp_head and for the string og:title. Removing the specific action leaves everything else in the theme untouched.
Step 6: Clean Up Orphaned Meta Data
Qode stores per-page SEO values in post meta keys, typically prefixed with the theme namespace. Once the output is disabled these values become dead weight in your database, and they can resurface if the option is ever re-enabled. Before deleting, export them so you can copy any hand-written titles or descriptions into your new plugin. Then remove the unused keys with a database maintenance tool. If a page had a carefully crafted description in the theme field, transfer it rather than lose it.
Step 7: Configure Your Dedicated Plugin Properly
With the conflict gone, set up your chosen plugin fully: title templates for posts, pages, archives and taxonomies, a single canonical strategy, an XML sitemap, organisation and breadcrumb schema, and social sharing defaults with a fallback image. Then re-check the page source. You should now see exactly one title tag, one meta description and one set of Open Graph tags.
Step 8: Validate and Request Recrawling
Run several key URLs through Google's Rich Results Test and the URL Inspection tool in Search Console, then request indexing for your most important pages so the corrected tags are picked up quickly. Watch the Search Console Pages report for a week to confirm no new exclusions appeared. Duplicate meta tags rarely cause a penalty, but they do cause the wrong snippet to be shown, which quietly suppresses click-through rate.
What to Do Next
Once the technical noise is gone, the ceiling on your rankings is set by content, links and site experience rather than configuration. That is the point to invest in genuinely useful pages, a coherent internal linking structure, and a broader digital marketing plan that turns the traffic into enquiries. Fixing a theme conflict does not win you rankings by itself, but it removes a handicap, and every improvement you make afterwards finally counts for its full value.
