How to Check if Your Site Has Good SEO
Ask ten tools whether your site has good SEO and you will get ten different numbers, most of them meaningless. Scores are composites of arbitrary weightings, and a site can score ninety while receiving almost no traffic, or score sixty while ranking for everything that matters commercially. The honest way to answer the question is to check outcomes rather than opinions. Is your content indexed? Is it appearing for queries with real intent behind them? Do those appearances turn into visits, and do the visits turn into anything? Everything else is diagnosis of why, not evidence of whether.
How AAMAX.CO Can Help You Assess Your SEO Properly
We are AAMAX.CO, a full service digital marketing company providing web development, digital marketing, and SEO services worldwide. A proper assessment requires separating symptoms from causes, which is where most self audits break down. Our specialists evaluate indexation, technical health, content quality, authority, and competitive position together, then deliver a prioritised plan rather than a list of every possible improvement. If you want to know exactly where you stand and what to fix first, our SEO services begin with a full diagnostic audit.
Check Indexation Before Anything Else
A page that is not indexed cannot rank, which makes indexation the foundational check. Open Google Search Console and go to the Pages report under Indexing. Compare the number of indexed pages against the number of pages you actually want indexed.
A large gap in either direction is a problem. Far fewer indexed pages than expected means content is being blocked, judged low quality, or never discovered. Far more indexed pages than expected usually means parameter URLs, filter combinations, or archive pages are being indexed and diluting your site.
Read the exclusion reasons carefully. "Crawled, currently not indexed" points at content quality or duplication. "Discovered, currently not indexed" points at crawl budget or slow server responses. "Duplicate without user selected canonical" points at a canonicalisation problem. Each of these has a different fix, and treating them as one issue wastes effort.
Read Your Query Performance Honestly
The Performance report is the most valuable data you have because it reflects reality rather than estimation. Look at impressions, clicks, average click through rate, and average position over the last six months, then look beneath the totals.
Check which queries actually drive your impressions. If they are all variations of your brand name, you have no organic acquisition, only brand capture. Healthy sites show substantial non brand impressions for terms describing what they offer.
Look for pages with many impressions and few clicks. Those are pages ranking on page one or two with unappealing titles and descriptions, and rewriting them is the fastest available win. Look also for queries where you average positions eight to fifteen. Those are close enough that modest content improvement can move them into positions that actually receive clicks.
Verify the Technical Foundations
Run your key page types through PageSpeed Insights and read the field data rather than the lab score. Field data reflects what real users experienced. Largest Contentful Paint should be under 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint under 200 milliseconds, and Cumulative Layout Shift under 0.1. Failing thresholds do not immediately destroy rankings, but they consistently suppress performance in competitive results and they measurably reduce conversion.
Confirm mobile usability, since mobile is the primary crawling context. Check that your site is served entirely over HTTPS with no mixed content warnings. Crawl the site with a tool that reports status codes and confirm you have no broken internal links, no redirect chains longer than a single hop, and no pages returning soft 404 responses.
Then check your canonical and directive consistency across templates. A single template error can misconfigure thousands of pages at once, and template level mistakes are the most common source of large scale technical damage.
Assess Content Depth and Intent Match
Take your ten most important pages and read them as a searcher would. Does each one answer the query it targets directly and early, or does it circle the topic before arriving? Does it cover the follow up questions the query implies? Would someone finish it feeling their question was resolved?
Then check for internal competition. Search your own site for a target query and see which page surfaces. If several pages target the same term, they are splitting signals and none will perform to its potential. Consolidating overlapping pages into one authoritative page is one of the most reliably effective changes available.
Look for the pages you have forgotten. Old posts that no longer reflect your positioning, thin service pages written years ago, and pages with no internal links pointing at them all drag on overall quality assessment. Update, consolidate, or remove them deliberately.
Look at Authority Realistically
Backlinks remain a significant ranking factor, so check the profile. Are links arriving from genuinely relevant sites, or from directories and low value aggregators? Is the profile growing naturally, or flat since launch? Are your most important commercial pages receiving any links, or is everything pointing at the homepage?
Compare against two or three competitors who consistently outrank you. If their referring domain counts are an order of magnitude higher in your niche, no amount of on page work will close that gap alone, and the strategy needs to include earning coverage.
Ignore the Metrics That Mislead
Third party authority scores are estimates, useful only for rough comparison and never as targets. Keyword rankings checked from your own browser are personalised and unreliable; use Search Console's average position instead. Traffic volume without conversion context tells you nothing about value. And a plugin's green light means your page contains a keyword the requisite number of times, not that it deserves to rank.
Judge your SEO by whether qualified people find you through non brand search and then do something valuable. Everything else is a diagnostic input. Our digital marketing team measures against outcomes on that basis, and our GEO services add visibility tracking inside AI answer engines, which now intercept a growing share of the queries your reports used to capture.
